Downloadable Audio Books
Downloadable audio books (e-audio books) are digital versions of audio books that are available through the Internet. The Library offers two free e-audio book services, OverDrive and NetLibrary. The services are available 24/7 and are accessible from the convenience of your home or office computer. With a Portsmouth Public Library card, you can sign up for one or both services and download titles to a computer that runs Windows 98 SE, 2000, ME, XP, or Vista and supports Windows Media Player version 9.0 and above.
You can also transfer your favorite titles to a wide range of portable devices such as music players, media centers, Pocket PCs and smartphones. Unfortunately, the iPod and Mac do not currently support copyright-protected Microsoft Windows Media Audio (WMA) files. Some titles may be burned to CD, if the publisher permits.

With e-audio books from NetLibrary, you have access to a comprehensive and growing collection of thousands of best-selling, classic and award-winning audio titles. You may browse our catalog for individual titles from leading publishers including Books on Tape, Recorded Books, Blackstone Audio, Books in Motion, Listen & Live Audio, L.A Theatre Works, Live Oak Media, Yoyo USA and more.
NetLibrary e-audio books are checked out for 21 days with one renewal. Each title can be checked out to multiple users so you never have to wait for a title. See NetLibrary online help for additional information.

With downloadable e-audio books from OverDrive, browse hundreds of bestselling titles, download them to your computer, transfer them to a portable device, or burn selected titles onto a CD for listening on the go.
The first time that you check out materials from OverDrive, you will be provided with instructions to download the software that you need.
The e-audio books from OverDrive are checked out for 7 days. Titles cannot be renewed, but can be checked out again if available when the checkout expires. Most titles can only be checked out to one user at a time. Holds can be placed on items that are in use. See OverDrive’s online help for more information.
