About Us
Friends of Portsmouth Public Library

To Once and Future Friends:

The Friends of Portsmouth Public Library-an organization that has flourished and languished over time-is trying to reconstitute itself.

A small group of Friends, some old Friends and some new, met in January to begin the process of rebuilding. At that meeting, we restated the mission of the Friends:

To support Portsmouth Public Library now and in its move to a new building.

We invite you to join in that mission.

We know some people will want to support the Library with their voices, some with membership in the group, and some with time and labor. We expect that the new Friends can offer opportunities to everyone who wants to participate. We do not expect, however, that the new Friends will assume major fund-raising responsibilities.

To be heard, to support the Library effectively, we need to be organized. So, we shall hold an organizational meeting on Monday, April 7 at 7:00 in the Vaughan Room. Please come to that meeting to elect officers, to talk about how our group can support the Library, and to hear about progress toward a new building.

If you cannot attend that meeting but wish to join, please pick up a membership form at the Circulation Desk the next time you are in the Library.

We hope to see you on the seventh.
