Inspection Department Business Hours
The inspectors maintain daily office hours between 8 AM to 10 AM, and between 1 PM to 2 PM. During that time they conduct plan review; issue electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits; consult with clients and answer construction code questions.
Building permits (including fire protection systems), and sign permits are applied for and issued anytime during normal city hall business hours. These permits are a two-step process with an application being submitted first, plan review conducted, and the permit issued at a later date.
Required inspections are scheduled between 10:15 AM to noon and between 2:15 PM to 4:30 PM. Special inspections, outside the hours listed above, are scheduled on an as needed basis and are usually done to accommodate the special needs of a particular project.
For complex project consultation it's best to schedule an appointment with the respective inspector(s). Appointments are typically scheduled during the office hours listed above but can be scheduled anytime during the day with enough advanced notice.
The Electrical Inspector is a part-time position. As such, discussing electric code issues, obtaining electric permits and scheduling inspections are generally done based on the electrical inspectors published monthly schedule . Permits can be issued for "simple" projects during the hours listed above (8-10 & 1-2), but for commercial permits and NEC consulting, it's best to meet directly with the Electrical Inspector. Inspections are also best scheduled during the electrical inspector's published monthly schedule .
