When Severe Weather Strikes...Will You Be Prepared?
Hurricanes, Floods, Ice Storms and other severe weather events can occur in New Hampshire. Are you ready? The Portsmouth Health Department would like to remind our residents to make a preparedness plan for themselves and their families. In an emergency, it can take several days for vital services to be restored. Experts recommend that you should be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least three days. Visit the following sites for information on how to prepare: http://72hours.org/index.html or http://www.nh.gov/readynh/resources/index.htm

The federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission arranged for each individual who lives or works in the 10-mile radius area surrounding either Seabrook Station or Vermont Yankee nuclear power plants to receive one 130-mg tablet of potassium iodide (KI) to use in the event of a radiological emergency. The 10-mile radius area is known as an Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ). For more information on obtaining KI tablets and their uses, please visit: http://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/radiological/ki.htm
