Nine members of the Portsmouth Fire Department were recently recognized with unit citations for their actions on the night of July 27, 2011 when they assisted the North Hampton Fire Department at the scene of a multi-vehicle accident that claimed the life of one person and injured six others on Rt. 95 Southbound. Three members of the North Hampton Fire Department were also recognized.

One of the vehicles was severely damaged and wedged under the rear wheels of a tractor trailer and it took members of the North Hampton and Portsmouth Fire Departments, along with two National Wrecker Service heavy duty wreckers, close to 1 hour and 40 minutes to extricate the seriously injured driver. Members of department were assigned and actively engaged in patient care, technical rescue, and extrication duties.

The following Portsmouth Fire Department members were awarded unit citations by North Hampton Fire Chief Dennis Cote and Portsmouth Fire Chief Christopher LeClaire on December 12, 2011 at the North Hampton Selectmen’s Meeting:

Unit Citations are awarded by fire departments or the State of NH Fire and EMS Service Committee of Merit to all members of a fire or rescue company, or group of fire fighters operating together; who perform meritorious service at the scene of a fire or emergency.
