The function of Economic Development in the City of Portsmouth is carried out cooperatively by the Economic Development Commission (EDC), the City Manager and the Economic Development Coordinator.
The EDC's function is to develop economic development policies, goals and objectives as an advisory commission to the Portsmouth City Council. EDC members include the City Manager, the Mayor and residents who represent the local business community.
The day to day economic development activities and planning are carried out by the Economic Development Program Manager and other city staff under the direction of the City Manager.
Activities include acting as the City's liaison to Portsmouth businesses, and offering assistance to businesses and individuals interested in starting, expanding operations, or relocating to Portsmouth.
The Economic Development Commission typically meets in City Hall Conference Room A, at 7:30 a.m. on the first Friday of every month. The Economic Development Coordinator's office is located in Room 323 of City Hall.
