PORTSMOUTH - Comcast has agreed to accommodate Portsmouth Cable subscribers impacted by Comcast’s relocation of C-Span 2. Last month the City of Portsmouth and its Cable Commission received complaints from Portsmouth residents regarding Comcast’s decision to relocate C-SPAN 2, which primarily carries U.S. Senate programming, from analog Channel 45 to digital Channel 247, effective November 1.
Due to the channel relocation, certain Portsmouth cable subscribers not yet receiving digital cable service were no longer able to view the U.S. Senate and other public affairs programming, including the weekend non-fiction book programming, on C-SPAN 2.
The Cable Commission found Comcast’s decision of concern. That concern was communicated to Comcast, as well as U.S. Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu, and U.S. Representatives Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes.
In response, a Comcast representative advised the City that Portsmouth cable subscribers no longer able to view C-SPAN 2 may either obtain a digital box or exchange their existing cable boxes at Comcast’s Portsmouth office located at 180 Greenleaf Avenue for a box capable of receiving the digital channel service at no cost for the first year. Any questions may be directed to Comcast.
