The children in Ms. McManus' fourth grade class will be beginning a multi-disciplinary unit on lighthouses immediately after February vacation.
Each child will choose one New England lighthouse to research and write a one page research paper on their chosen lighthouse. Previous to the written paper, each child will do a web using the software program Inspiration. They will also make a replica of their lighthouse in art class and wire them during classroom science time.
The following curriculum in this eight week unit includes; art (sculpture), language arts (reading & writing, science (electricity), social studies (New England history), Technology (research), music and cooperative learning.
After the lighthouses are complete, the children will have a celebration called "Light Night" to present their efforts to family, friends, and the community. They organize this event by developing invitations, programs and refreshments for the evening event.
