Reference: D.W.I. Arrest at Portsmouth High School
Date of Release: February 9, 2007
On February 9, 2007 at approximately 2:15 PM, the following individual was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated:

Detective Robert Munson, in his capacity as the School Resource Officer at Portsmouth High School, received information from high school employees that they believed Mr. Syphers was under the influence of alcohol and was preparing to drive from the high school. Det. Munson stopped Mr. Syphers in the act of operating a motor vehicle and determined that he was impaired. He was placed under arrest on Andrew Jarvis Drive where Portsmouth High School is located. He was processed at the Portsmouth Police Department and later released on $500. personal recognizance bail for a March 12th, 2007 court date in Portsmouth District Court.
Mr. Syphers is a contract vendor who provides driver instruction to Portsmouth High School students. He is not an employee of the Portsmouth School Department. The school department has suspended his status as a contract provider pending an internal investigation into this conduct.
This is an on-going investigation, therefore neither the Portsmouth Police Department nor the Portsmouth School Department will be releasing any further information at this time.
