Reference:  Promotion to Deputy Police Chief

The Portsmouth Police Commission voted unanimously tonight to promote Captain Stephen DuBois to the rank of Deputy Police Chief.

Deputy Police Chief DuBois is a New Hampshire native with over 18 years of law enforcement experience, beginning his career as a part-time officer with the Hampton Police, UNH Police and the Portsmouth Police Auxiliary.  He began his full time police career in Portsmouth in 1993 and has worked steadily in the patrol and detective divisions, to include supervision assignments.  He is the Coordinator of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) and has been intimately involved in initiatives such as Sobriety Checkpoints.  He is the Commander of the Seacoast Emergency Response Team and the Commander of Operations for the Field Training Officer Program. 

Originally from Dover, he graduated from the University if New Hampshire with a Sociology Degree and has a Masters in Business Administration degree from Southern New Hampshire University.  He is President of the New Hampshire Police Association, and has served on many boards and committees specifically on issues relating to Homeland Security.  He is a recent graduate of the 237th session of the FBI National Academy.

He brings a varied range of police and community experience to his new assignment.
