Reference: Arrest of suspect armed with knife:
On August 6, 2005 at approximately 1:11 AM patrol Officer Scott Pearl observed a male suspect climbing the back side of 75 Congress St apparently attempting to gain access to the building through a window.
Upon approach of the officer, the male fled to the rooftop, ultimately hiding on the roof of 72 Congress St., the Congress St. News Shop. Off. Pearl was able to pursue the suspect and ultimately detain him at gunpoint until assisting officers arrived.
The male was found to be in possession of a knife and refused commands to submit to arrest. Off. Pearl, assisted by Officer Russell Russo, ultimately took the suspect into custody after a brief struggle.
The Portsmouth Fire Department ladder truck was called for assistance to remove the suspect from the rooftop.
The suspect was identified as :
Mark Distaso 5/23/72
5 Hartford Ln, Nashua, NH
Distaso was subsequently charged with the following offenses:
Criminal Threatening (felony)
Prowling
Criminal Trespass
Resisting Arrest
One officer did sustain minor injuries in the course of this arrest.
