CITY CONTINUES HURRICANE EARL PREPARATIONS
Sept. 3, 2010
PORTSMOUTH- The City of Portsmouth’s Emergency Management Team met again Friday and although it appeared Hurricane Earl would become a tropical storm by the time it reached Portsmouth overnight, residents were urged to continue to monitor weather conditions.
Fire, Police and Public Works crews are prepared to respond to any weather-related issues, but there were no plans to open the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
If conditions change and warrant the sending of additional public updates, they will be transmitted in Community Newsletter special alerts and/or via the Code Red Community Notification (Reverse 911) System, posted at www.cityofportsmouth.com and sent to local news media outlets.
Residents are again urged to register their cell phones, landlines and addresses in the Code Red System
Database by going to www.cityofportsmouth.com/police/cas.htm in order to receive emergency messages, which cam be targeted to specific areas or the entire City. Residents also are urged to sign up for the City’s Community Newsletter at www.cityofportsmouth.com/newsletter/index.htm as it has the capacity to convey additional details in the event of an emergency, as well as regularly transmit important information about City activities every other Wednesday.
