Reference: ‘White collar crime’ arrests
On Monday, August 18th, 2008 the following two individuals turned themselves into the Portsmouth Police Department as the result of arrest warrants for two separate investigations:
Brian Vespa
Date of birth 05/29/69
39 Western Avenue
Rochester, NH
Charge: Insurance Fraud (class A Misdemeanor).
Released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail for a September 29th, 2008 arraignment date at Portsmouth District Court.
Walter S. Wakefield (AKA: John Foster)
Date of birth 05/19/46
1070 Lafayette Road
Portsmouth, NH
Charge: Issuing Bad Checks (class A Misdemeanor).
Released on $500 personal recognizance bail for a September 15th, 2008 arraignment date at Portsmouth District Court.
The charge against Mr. Vespa alleges that he defrauded an insurance company of $345.79 when he filed a claim for damage to his motor vehicle, claiming it to be new damage when in fact it was old damage.
The charge against Mr. Wakefield alleges that he wrote a check in the amount of $490 for several months worth of plowing services for his business, the Antiquarian Bookstore located at 1070 Lafayette Road in Portsmouth. There were not enough funds to cover the check, and repeated attempts were made by the victim to collect the money to no avail.
