The Youth Services staff
are very friendly and always eager to help young Library users find the materials and information they need or want. The collection is sizeable and fits creatively into a space-challenged three-level room.
COLLECTIONS
The Children's Room has much to offer. There are nearly 30,000 items in the children's collections, including: board books, picture books, readers, chapter books, read-along kits, magazines, audio cassettes, CDs, videos, DVDs, and computer CD-ROMs.

SEARCH TIP FOR AV MATERIALS
You can view lists of children's books and music on tape or CD; videos, DVDs and CD-Roms.
For example, if you want to see a list of children's DVDs at PPL:
- Go to the catalog.
- Search by Call number, type in "DVD" and .
- In the box with a pull-down menu for WHERE item is located select J-PPL-Juvenile.
- Click the Search button.
Similarly, search by call numbers: CD; KIT; AUDIO; MUSIC; or CD-ROM,
and proceed as above.

PROGRAMS
Free programs such as Story Times, Lapsits, Toddler Times, Author
Visits, Summer Reading Programs, Class Visits, Make-and-Take
Projects, Book Talks, and Guest Presenters are offered through the

HOW TO GET A LIBRARY CARD
All Portsmouth residents and students from Kindergarten up may get a Portsmouth Public Library card. Each year, the Kindergarten classes are issued their first PPL cards, at the Library or at school. It is a very exciting time! For more about Library cards Click here.
COMPUTERS
The Games, Word Processing, and Internet computers are exclusively for use by children under 18. Sign up in the Children's Room or call ahead to reserve a time.
GAMES CD ROM COMPUTER
The games computer is not connected to the Internet. A variety of educational and recreational CD-ROMs are available for to use at this computer.
WORD PROCESSING COMPUTER
There is a word processing computer and printer on the upper level in the Children's Room. Sign up for time needed for the particular task.
INTERNET COMPUTERS
Any restriction of a child's access to computers or to computer-based services is the responsibility of the parent, guardian, or immediate caregiver.
